In the summer of 2000, many of the vineyards were destroyed by a fire. This led to a redesign and search for new estates. In December of that same year, the first estate, covering 17 acres in Sofiana, Corinthia, was purchased. With additional acquisitions, the total area now reaches 61acres. During this period, three wines were produced with a total output of 12,000 to 15,000 bottles.
In 2002, the vineyards damaged by the fire were replanted, alongside 9 acres of new vineyards in Sofiana. Consequently, by 2005, production increased to around 35,000 to 40,000 bottles, with approximately 60% of the production being white wines and 40% red wines. Exports expanded to more countries, including Germany, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Cyprus, Austria, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
From 2017 to 2019, there was another expansion of the vineyards adjacent to the existing ones in Sofiana. Fifty new acres were planted with Syrah, Mavrodafni, Assyrtiko, and Goustolidi, bringing the total area to 90 acres. The expansion continued between 2022 and 2024, with the first plantings of Riesling and Zakynthino. Today, the estate cultivates a total of 170 acres across three vineyard plots in Lalio Corinthia. Production has now reached between 80,000 to 90,000 bottles, with a target of 120,000 bottles by 2030.
To achieve this goal, a new winery was constructed in Baritsa, Lalio, which began operations in the fall of 2020. The third generation of the estate, Dimitris and Alexandros Papargyriou, are completing their studies to gradually take over the management of the winery, leading Papargyriou Estate into a new era.
