VINEYARDS AND CULTIVATION

The first vineyard of Papargyriou Estate is situated at an altitude of 240 meters on the slopes of semi-mountainous Corinthia, near the village of Lalio, 10 kilometers southwest of Kiaton. All the vineyards are oriented from north to south, featuring a linear planting system with a double-sided Royat method. The estate is located in a valley that has been shaped into terraces, allowing for good air circulation and smooth grape ripening—conditions essential for producing high-quality wines. The soil is sedimentary and limestone-based, contributing to wines with structure and aromatic potential.

The second vineyard is positioned at an altitude of 850 meters in Sofiana, Corinthia (25 kilometers southwest of Xylokastro), characterized by clayey-sandy soil. Its orientation is southeast, and it also employs a linear planting system with Royat. The mild summer temperatures favor the production of grapes with distinctive aromas, which in turn yield wines with freshness and vitality. This area utilizes both indigenous Greek varieties such as Moschoudi, Assyrtiko, Mavrostifo, Goustolidi, Zakynthino, and Mavrodafni, as well as foreign varieties with heightened soil and climate requirements (Riesling, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon).

Adjacent to the second vineyard is our third vineyard, located in the village of Rethi, Corinthia, at an altitude of 800 meters, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

  Our Main Goal

Our primary objective is to produce grapes of exceptional quality because we believe that only excellent raw materials can yield high-quality wine. To achieve this, we maintain yields at particularly low levels (below 800 kg per hectare for reds, and under 500 kg per hectare for white varieties), while closely monitoring the ripening process of the grapes through continuous analysis. For red varieties, we implement a “green harvest,” which involves removing a portion of the grapes at the beginning of ripening to ensure the remaining grapes are of higher quality.

The harvest is late, aiming for true phenolic ripeness, and is always done manually, without the use of machines.

Additionally, we practice leaf removal to prevent rot. During cultivation, we use a balanced approach to pesticides and fertilizers, with a particular preference for products and preparations that are used in organic farming (such as sulfur, copper, and organic fertilizers like manure). No herbicides or insecticides are used.
